Harsch Moving

We asked for an offer in May to move end of September. They sent a sales person, who made the estimate of the volume and then offered movement for CHF 15450!!!! But we agreed. Then all over sudden, wooden boxes were needed for some of our goods, and of course, we had to pay for it. Again we were assured, all will fit in one container. Then the invoice increased up to CHF 17385.45.

We were told, it takes 2 days to wrap and load things. On the day 4 men came only with a transporter, no container available - in 4 months they could not organise a container!!!??? AND they did not bring the wooden boxes - no need for the transport within Switzerland to their storage?? They packed everything in 1 day and in the evening, when they were loading the transporter, all over sudden 1/3 did not match into the transporter! We had to leave goods worth about CHF 5000 in Switzerland. When we unwrapped the left behinds that evening, what a surprise! They packed air into the boxes!!! 3 small things in a big box with lots of paper... no wonder, our things did not all fit!!! etc. etc. After our complaint they picked up some more things. All Packing was done very unprofessional and careless.

Finally we received the shipped goods, but the promised "unwrapping, reassembling of basic furniture, unpacking and placing of the goods on nearest flat surface and remove of empty boxes" did not take place. We had to "beg" them, to bring the goods into the house instead of just putting it on the parking lot.

We complaint several times about their service but never got an apology. At the end they agreed to CHF 810 compensation for the lack of promised service. But CHF 200 were deducted for fuel compensation, because transport took so long. The insurance paid for things the packers broke, glad we had it!

We are very disappointed by Harsch services and would never recommend this moving company at all!!! On top the dispatcher was very arrogant, we were glad, he went on a vacation and at the end we dealt with his Boss.

In general, the movers were on time and followed directions according to plan.  However, they showed up to the apartment with the wrong wrapping materials.  Our belongings were going into storage for a turn-around move in 6 months and they did not bring the proper bubble-wrap and other protective material in anticipation of this move.  So all of our belongings were stacked in a storage space without protection. They did not offer to compensate us for this. They also charged an exhorbitant 600 francs (about $680 USD) to pack the kitchen. It took them 1.5 hours with 2 people to complete the job.  Total rip-off. Finally, they damaged our brand new refrigerator and refused to compensate for the damage because we didn't take out their insurance policy.  We believe that they didn't explain the policy to us correctly and we still believe that they should have covered the damage done to the refrigerator.   Worst of all was the attitude of the management who acted like they were doing us a service by taking our money.  They refused to acknowledge any wrong-doing and were arrogant and rude.

The Swiss side of the move was professional with trained team, courteous, and efficient. Harsch handed over the US delivery to Earth Relocation (https://www.earthrelocation.com/) the coordinator was clueless and unprofessional - they sent a lone driver from Oakland to Reno without informing who would unload the container.. three guys appeared at the storage with own cars (hired daily work) no uniforms, gloves or even a ramp to offload the piano.. Long story short, we used own tractor to offload the piano without hurting anyone (the existence of a piano was well known to Earth relocation).The service at the receiving end was chaotic and unprofessional. You would think that a company that charges $14,000 for the move (Harsch) would offer an apology.. don't hold your breath.

Lesson here - investigate details of delivery at the other end of an international move and require clear and assured service (if you receive vague answers- it is a good sign you need to employ a different moving company).
